The IAU professor Mehdi Baqeri-Mofidi said that after the health authorities announced that the coronavirus can be transmitted through droplets in the air, especially in closed and crowded environments, an air purifier using ultraviolet rays was built and tested.

Air purifiers can be effective in improving indoor air quality. There are different types available, and those that use UV light capture and destroy viruses and bacteria present in the air.

Air purification by ultraviolet rays is generally dangerous for humans and leads to the production of ozone gas in the environment, he told ANA on the sidelines of the Islamic Azad University's "second step of revolution" under the title of Asreh Omid Event, which was held in Tehran's Mosalla from May 29 to June 1, 2022.

In such a system, the air flow entering the device is disinfected by passing in front of a number of ultraviolet lamps with the maximum collision between the radiation and air particles, he explained.

The ozone gas produced is finally removed by a filtration network and plasma flow, and the air is blown into the environment, Baqeri-Mofidi pointed out.

He went on to say that the air purifier is not only used for coronavirus but can be used to clean the air from most pathogenic particles suspended in the air.

Iran’s Deputy Health Minister Es’haq Ameri has said in the light of the coronavirus pandemic, domestic knowledge-based companies were at the forefront of the fight by expanding production lines, making us highly independent.

A total of 227 knowledge-based firms are supplying medical equipment for health centers across the country, according to the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology.
